From Grapes to Stories: What makes an ecological wine story meaningful?

From Grapes to Stories: What makes an ecological wine story meaningful?

Research from STORY4WINE examines how consumers respond to ecological wine stories and the findings suggest an important distinction between believing and emotionally connecting to a wine story and being willing to pay a premium for it.

As sustainability has become an indispensable part of the wine sector, communicating ecological wine practices has become as necessary as implementing them.

Perhaps what remains an important question is what makes consumers trust these stories and connect to them?

And how these ecological stories can be treated more than image making strategies?

As part of the STORY4WINE project, we have developed a Consumer Insights Report to better understand how consumers respond to ecological wine and the stories built around it.

The STORY4WINE Consumer Insights Report explores these questions by examining on one hand how wine producers construct ecological wine stories.

And secondly by analyzing consumer responses to ecological wine communication, particularly with a focus on credibility and authenticity, emotional engagement, loyalty and willingness to pay a premium.

This report facilitates readers with a ready output document summarizing STORY4WINE project results.

The results suggest that ecological wine storytelling will be successful when storytelling is not used in a generic sense as decorative additions. Rather, it should help consumers judge claims which they cannot verify directly.

The findings of this study suggest that consumers should perceive a wine story as genuine rather than a mere means to pay a premium.

Further, this report presents a communication checklist for producers and wine associations to present wine stories as more persuasive and valuable without being considered a promotion noise.

Additionally, this report will help wine consumers to understand how wine stories should be evaluated to make sustainability more meaningful and something observable.

This report presents various elements that can help consumers understand ecological production in wine industry as a value commitment.

Overall, this report by STORY4WINE project suggests that wine storytelling is not a single communication style but a set of mechanisms that allow wine producers to make behind-the-scenes ecological practices clear and meaningful to consumers.
